The story of Bhagya Lakshmi serial’s plot centres on Lakshmi, a straightforward and good-hearted rural girl. Her mother was a tough woman who yet trusted in fate and magic, while her father, well-known businessman Rishi Oberoi, owned a construction company. Their business was constantly in debt, so she turned to her faith for support. They suggested that she set up her son’s marriage to a fortunate girl. She therefore arranges for her son to wed Lakshmi for a year, since they are faithful to one another and he already has a girlfriend. She then travelled to that hamlet, believing she had brought them good fortune, to accept Lakshmi’s hand in marriage for her son.
After their marriage, Rishi treats Lakshmi with little regard and disregard, but she makes an effort to win his affection. Eventually, Lakshmi learns the truth—that Rishi only married her to keep their business afloat—and that, one year later, he will abandon her and file for divorce. However, after she deceived him, Rishi lost interest in everything. Prior to that, he and her had a real relationship.
